We are now well into the New Year and if, like me, you are one of the many people who made New Years’ resolutions and are looking for new horizons, it is a good time to take stock. Did you start out with good intentions and fall at the first hurdle? Or get back on the horse, fall again and then give up?

If you are one of those people for whom the making of a resolution seems a distant memory, coaching can be a powerful tool to get you back on track to achieve your longer term goals.

In my case, over the festive break I managed to over-indulge (who doesn’t?). So, my main resolution at New Year was to reduce my weight and become fitter in the next 3 months. I started out well and then, due to some pre-planned trips to London, my weight goals ‘blew out’. However, with a bit of willpower and, more importantly, a clear plan for achieving my targets, I got back on track and managed to lose 5lbs in January. I’ve also booked myself into a half marathon later in the year as an added motivating tool.

In your case, maybe only a few minor changes are required to get you re-focussed on your goals. All that is required is a willingness to develop and reach your potential. Other people have been in that place where nothing that they did seemed to bring the change in their life that they desired. However, many then found a way forward and achieved success – this can be you!

CREATING ROUTINES AND HABITS – NEW HORIZONS

It is about creating good routines and habits. A coach will help you reflect on what you have achieved in your life, and how you have changed. They will work with you to identify how this might be applied to your current situation. You will be encouraged to reflect, think ‘out of the box’, and make positive progress. With goal setting, the key is to set specific goals wherever possible, and for them to be measurable, achievable, realistic and with a target date.
