People with confidence are admired and inspire others to improve themselves. They tend to take risks, knowing that they can get past any obstacles in their path, and they tend to stay positive even when things are going badly.

The good thing is that self-confidence can be learned and mastered just like most things. When I was being bullied as a teenager at school, my way of dealing with it was to internally tell myself I was better than those people. I believed in myself, and if you don’t do that, how will anyone else?

I had to fake it at first, and this can apply to a lot of things in life, but self-confidence started to grow, and so it can with you. So, what can you do to create change?

Surround yourself with positivity

Assess your contacts, including friends and family, and seriously consider breaking away from those people who make you feel bad. Even a temporary break from these kinds of people can make a massive difference.

Stop focussing on problems, and start to focus on solutions and positive change. Be positive, even if you’re not feeling it yet.

Creative a positive image

Imagine someone with good posture and a smile and you’re looking at someone who is self-confident. Keeping eye contact also shows confidence.

Research has proven that those who take the time to speak slowly and clearly feel more self-confidence and seem more self-confident to others.

Do things that make you feel better about yourself. This might be dressing differently or getting a new haircut. Others are more likely to perceive you as self-confident if you feel good in yourself

Failure is not an option

Don’t accept failure. Become resilient and never give up. Make these things your daily mantras. If you can succeed through adversity, then this will massively increase your confidence levels.

Abandon negativity

Low self-confidence often stems from negative thoughts caught on a continual loop in our heads. Don’t create a self-fulfilling prophecy. Turn the negativity around to a positive affirmation and keep reinforcing this until your confidence starts to rise

Prepare

Learn all that you need to know about what you are trying to achieve. Prepare for any given situation, and have the knowledge to back it up. Your self-confidence will be sky-high.

Create a list

There will be times when it is difficult to maintain self-confidence. Make a list of everything for which you are thankful, and another of everything for which you are proud. If your self-confidence is suffering, then look at the lists and allow yourself to be inspired.
